The Happiness/Money Index
Anita Sharpe on Culture

Study after study shows the same thing: after a certain point, money doesn't buy happiness. Ronald Inglehart, a political scientist at the University of Michigan, is looking at this phenomenon as it applies to entire countries. One finding -- Latin American societies, despite a relative lack of wealth, are among the happiest in the world (the U.S. is pretty happy, as well.) Here are some of the happiest countries:

*Puerto Rico (at the top)
*Mexico
*Ireland
*Denmark
*Canada
*Switzerland

And some of the unhappiest:

*Indonesia (least happy)
*Russia
*Ukraine
*Romania
*Pakistan

What are the common denominators? (Obviously, beaches and snow aren't big factors.) Read the whole story here.
