I'm not sure that a dream that costs you absolutely everything is healthy -- especially if it costs you your family.

The reason so many people are living a sub-standard existence is because of the high cost of pursuing our dreams. It will cost more time, more energy and more resources than you plan for. It will probably cost relationships and possibly even family who disagree with your choices and are perhaps uncomfortably challenged by you breaking out of the box.

A question to ask ourselves might be, 'If this dream costs me absolutely everything, will it be worth it?' Finding something worth saying yes to is the first step.

I'd like to see Worthwhile tackle more of the practical aspects of taking that leap of faith from unsatisfying security to the risky but possibly rewarding unknown. Give us some tips/role models on how to pay the mortgage (not to mention health insurance) while we pursue our passion.

Simple really. So many of us have dug ourselves into a hole of financial commitments to sustain a materialistic lifestyle that we probably don't really want anymore. Unfortunately the debts that accompanied reaching this point don't disappear simply because I want to change into a career that would be a lot more rewarding.

Trapped would be an understatement...

I was just having this conversation yesterday with one of my clients. He concluded that it's human nature to follow rather than lead. That decision making about something that can actually effect your 'survival' and way of life is too threatening a responsiblity to accept. Simply doing, and hoping for a bit of free time at the end of it was an equitable reward. And also people are apt to allow for a host of unpleasantries for just a bit of leisure.
