When Naming Rights Hit Home
Kevin Salwen on Business

On a sunny May day some years ago, I met my to-be wife in the right field bleachers of Wrigley Field. No kidding. We were both Northwestern University students at the time, playing hooky from classes and enjoying the circus that was the bleachers: shirtless men (and occasionally women) chanting, taunting, cheering, singing, drinking, even at times watching the game. I think it might have been the way this wonderful blonde yelled 'Left field sucks' that first drew me to her.

For the entirety of our marriage, as couples are always asked to do, Joan and I have dutifully gone through the story of our meeting in the Wrigley bleachers. But now the folks at Tribune Co. (which owns the Cubs) have sold the naming rights to our first-meeting place to Anheuser-Busch.

Now and for eternity Joan and I will have to say something like: 'We met in the right-field side of the Bud Light Bleachers.' I guess it could be worse: they could have sold the rights to Halliburton.
