Intensity and Fun
Kevin Salwen on Creativity

In a short profile in this month's issue of Best Life magazine, USC football coach Pete Carroll 'reveals his secret strategy for motivating players to excel,' according to the headline. The secret: Happiness leads to success. 'You have to want to succeed for the right reasons in order to eliminate fear and doubt and to incorporate success into your life,' he tells Best Life. And he coaches to instill that success.

But my favorite quote in the piece actually isn't from Carroll himself, it's from ESPN analyst Lee Corso, who is asked to explain Carroll's style. Says Corso: 'Society associates intensity with strength, and fun with weakness, and it's exactly the opposite.' Now that got me thinking, especially from a coach who leads the defending National Champion. Great quote, nicely said.
