Worthwhile Thought: Wednesday
Anita Sharpe on Culture

'We need to help make people aware that every decision that you make about what you are eating has consequences. It's not just about your health and your pleasure -- it's about the environment and it's about our culture. When we buy fast food, we buy the values of fast food. We want everything fast, cheap and easy. And it drives the architecture, the music and the art -- everything in the culture is driven by the ideas that are eaten with fast food.' -- Organic food pioneer Alice Waters interviewed in the premiere issue of Worthwhile magazine

Anita,
People I talk to just keep saying the same things....'I don't have time' Man that really bugs me. I live in a large urban area. I have an organic garden in my yard, we compost and recycle, I ride my bike as much as I can, as does my husband, we buy only fair trade and organic whenever we can, we support local business owners. We choose to eat out at local small places where the food is prepared by hand and we don't mind waiting while it is being prepared.
We're not perfect by any stretch but it's not so hard to do this stuff...
I want to leave a legacy for my kids that shows I cared enough about them and their friends to take the time and make the effort:not to mention the fact that there are a lot of people who are overweight in North America and that is directly related to the fast food culture. We're not doing ourselves any favours by 'saving time.' I am not sure how to get the attention of people before they choose to change their habits but I sure wish I could. Thank heavens some of the corporate is 'getting it.'
Living la vida fearless,
Jan
