My favorite Harry Potter Trivia. . .
Anita Sharpe on Creativity

is not that the latest installment broke another one-day record by selling 6.5 million copies in the first 24 hours, but that no major publisher would touch the book when J.K. Rowling was shopping the first volume.

Isn't that almost always the case with truly creative/innovative cultural products? (Remember the Beatles being turned down, or denied an audition, by every big record label in Britain; Walt Disney turned down by more than 400 banks when he wanted to build Disneyland, etc.)

OK, it may not be in the Beatles class, but I heard that all the networks turned down Jim Henson and his Muppetts and more than 30 publishers rejected 'Chicken Soup for the Soul'

And I read that Colonel Sanders was turned down by over 1,000 restaurants before someone would carry his KFC recipe.

I read that Gone With the Wind was turned down by 40 publishers. You do have to wonder how many potentially great things never happen because their creators lack persistence and faith in themselves.
