Captain Planet, Where Are You?
Anita Sharpe on Making a Difference

Why don't (or can't) cops write tickets to egregious auto polluters as quickly as they pull over speeders? I ask this after sitting behind a car at a stoplight that was spewing enough blue smoke to envelope his car, my car, the car next to me and the car behind me -- and perhaps many more cars but I couldn't tell because I couldn't see through the smoke. For that matter, have you ever seen anyone pulled over for throwing soda cans and other junk out their car windows? (Here that does carry a hefty fine -- but I've never seen or heard of anyone getting hit with it.)

Nick, when I see people do that, I visualize myself walking up to their car at a red light, and throwing some garbage into their car.

Someday if I'm in a bad mood, maybe I'll do it for real.

I also don't like it when I see people throw their cigarettes out their window.

Hear, hear. Ditto re noise pollution. How many times have you been at a stoplight...and the vibration from the bass - FROM THREE CARS AWAY - makes your bones vibrate! Ouch!
