Flowers Die, Candy Rots Your Teeth
Kevin Salwen on Creativity

But... surely someone out there has come up with the perfect offbeat Valentine's Day gift. Kate told me today that she wished she had some Slim Jims to bring my way to celebrate the day -- but until they can write those little candy-heart messages on them, I ain't interested. (Sidenote 1: If you haven't tried to write your own candy heart, here's your chance. Sidenote 2: Necco makes 8 billion sweethearts a year to sell between Jan. 1 and Feb. 14.)

But back to the point at hand: Anyone have any great ideas for offbeat V-Day gifts?

I just made a post about a creative gift I gave my wife for Valentine's Day here:

Before packages of processed meat start flooding the office, I must clarify that the Slim Jims were Kevin's Valentine's gift to me and one of my colleagues a few years back- our local 'breakfast bunch' used to meet at the colorfully named Kountry Kitchen, which featured an in-house smoker I was fond of complaining about...and so were the people who had to sit next to me and my smoked hair and clothes at the rest of the day's meetings!

Nonetheless, they are red, and they may work if your Valentine is on Atkins or South Beach.
