Where Inspiration Can Come From
Kevin Salwen on Making a Difference

It's rare these days that I'm taken aback by kindness, but that happened this morning. I was having breakfast with my kids at Panera Bread, refilling my coffee near a seating area. An elderly woman, who's a regular at the store, swapped standard pleasantries with one of the employees -- 'it's rainy today,' that kind of thing. But then she added, 'You're feeding a lot of people today, giving them strength. That's important.' The employee beamed, her face glowing with a new sense of pride.

I was reminded how powerful such a statement could be. 'Dear employee,' it said, 'a customer thanks you. Your work is not only valued, it's valuable.' The conversation was not a world-changer, but I'm going to bet it was just a day-changer for one person.

I'm a regular at Panera's--have thought about writing a blog just about the people I see there--especially dads with kids. Today I opened a door for a man and he said, 'Absolutely not,' and took over that task.

I purchased Worthwhile because I have a blog about premiere issues. It's on my list 'to do.' Read it this morning at Panera's.

Another simple but powerful comment...

'I believe in what you're doing.'

It's amazing what a difference that short little sentence can make.
