Woof
Kevin Salwen on Culture

When I left The Wall Street Journal in 2000, I began working more frequently from home. So, I got a dog -- a wonderful pound puppy named Maggie -- to keep me company (she's a border-collie mix, in case you're wondering). Now, the more I look around, I see many more dogs in offices. Oh, not the staid office towers, of course, but the more relaxed consulting, marketing, advertising, web-based biz places.

These canine-embracing environments invariably seem to be happier spaces to work, reflecting the personality of people instead of a set of HR-driven rules. I always wonder, which came first: the joy or the dog?

I picked up your magazine at Logan Airport in Boston, compliments of the USAirways shuttle. It is very good.

I am a professor at Harvard Business School and would like to send you a paper that a couple of colleagues and I have forthcoming on many issues directly related to the premise of your magazine. Is there an email I can send it to? You can email me at rkhurana@hbs.edu
