Loving What You Do, Sanitation Edition
Kevin Salwen on Passionate Work

There was marvelous a piece on NPR this morning about love of work: A profile of New York City sanitation worker Andrew Macchio, who has been serenading people from the back of his garbage truck for more than two decades.

He's a mighty-fine tenor who enjoys working outside but as importantly loves making people happy. As he cruises around the Upper East Side of Manhattan, he belts out show tunes, standards and other music. His view: When he can bring joy to others, he likes his work better.

Macchio's story is a literal version of what we've been asking on this site for several months: What makes you 'sing' at your job? If you can't find an answer, isn't today the day to start looking elsewhere?
