Today's News Highlights
Anita Sharpe on Culture

From Tom Friedman's column: 'When Bill Gates goes to China, students hang on the rafters and scalp tickets to hear him speak. In China, Bill Gates is Britney Spears. In America, Britney Spears is Britney Spears.'

From the New York Times magazine article, 'Our National Eating Disorder:' 'Compared with the French, we're much more likely to choose foods for reasons of health, and yet the French, more apt to choose on the basis of pleasure, are the healthier (and thinner) people.'

From Dave Barry's column on traffic congestion: 'Commuting by automobile now takes so long that many workers have no time to do any actual work. When they reach their place of employment, they grab a cup of coffee, spend a few minutes discussing the previous night's episode of The Apprentice with their co-workers, and immediately start the long commute home, unaware that their jobs were outsourced to Asia months ago.'
