Politics intrudes
David Weinberger on Business

Like many of us, I've been shaken by the revelations about Abu Ghraib. And it's been distracting me from work, both explicitly as I listen to the hearings on the radio and implicitly as a sort of mood.

I don't want to debate the political issue here, so if this particular affair doesn't bother you the way it bothers me, then choose another as an example. But I don't know whether I should feel that the affair's intrusion on my work consciousness is a problem to be overcome or a condition to be embraced. I find myself trying to shake it off as a distraction, but then I think that maybe it's right at a personal level to be distracted. Are we better and more moral people if we succeed at walling such matters off from work? I dunno...

And how do you feel *today*?

Yes, I say dammit when every day when I hear we lost more troops. But there is no right answer and pondering it only wastes my time and energy.

I can't do anything to affect the outcome. Those that have vested interests (like the family of troops) will certainly have energy and will to get involved.
