A DIFFERENT OUTSOURCING STORY
Anita Sharpe on Business
I had a thought-provoking lunch yesterday with my friend Cathy Massey, chairman and cofounder of LawDocsXpress, which supplies virtual secretaries to law firms. These independent contractors work from home, as much or little as they want and whatever hours suit them. They have what most traditional secretaries can only dream of: control.
'I have this whacky belief that we can change the way business operates and we'll do it one company at a time,' Cathy says. 'When people love what they're doing, they want to produce the best work they can because they want to keep doing it.'
'I spent ten years of my life in a very large corporation and I know the corporate world has got to change, ' she says. 'We have to be creative in the way we use people.'
She has 30 secretaries working for LawDocs now and a waiting list of more than 200 people. 'I can't tell you how many of them have said, 'thank you for giving me my life back'.'
