'There are very few people who don't become more interesting when they stop talking.' -- Mary Lowry

You're posting some great quotes these days, Anita. I habitually collect them into an archive, but never respond as often as I should.

At my old job, we had a programmer named Andy who is highly intelligent (we think he'd pass the Mensa exam if we could get him to take it), creative, perceptive, and almost philosophical. He rarely talked, and when he did it would take him awhile to get something out (think Ross on 'Friends'), not because he stuttered but because he would carefully consider each string of words before he'd utter them.

When he did talk, an entire room full of people would stop talking, debating, arguing, and whispering. There would be no interruptions, no side conversations, no one staring out the window in boredom. Everyone would listen intently to him. His ideas were difficult to say 'no' to. He may well have been the most powerful person on staff.

He was also the one that his colleagues would cite as the employee they'd most like to get to know better.

Chatty Cathies and Chets, take note.
