Catching Up
Kevin Salwen on In the News

We've been pushing hard here at Worthwhile to lock up the April issue of the magazine, which we're sending to the printer today. So, I haven't had much chance to comment on the news. A few things caught my eye though:

1. As men's clubs go, Halls of Fame can be among the most gender-exclusive. So, I thought it was cool that the Baseball Hall just elected its first woman -- Effa Manley, a co-owner of the Newark Eagles of the Negro Leagues. The irony of her being named Manley isn't lost on me.

2. As scary identity theft goes, this one now tops my list: the use of keylogging programs that silently copy the keystrokes of computer users and send that information to crooks. The New York Times reported on Monday: 'The monitoring programs are often hidden inside ordinary software downloads, email attachments or files shared over peer-to-peer networks. They can even be embedded in Web pages, taking advantage of browser features that allow programs to run automatically.' OK, I'm updating my virus protection now.
