Shooting for a Goal? Keep it Simple
Anita Sharpe on Life

How often do we over-think and over-complicate things? For many of us, it's most of the time.

So how did the unheralded Julia Mancuso beat the world's best skiers to win an Olympic gold medal? 'I thought that all I had to do was ski fast to the bottom,' she said. 'I wouldn't make it any more complicated than that. Sometimes that's all it takes. Sometimes, everything else takes care of itself.'

You're right. Sometimes....and usually....it just takes a clear intention and we'll achieve our objective. It's in the mind, plus a sound technique to support it...

A couple of summers ago, while doing an internship at Swimming World Magazine, I became friendly with Misty Hyman who unexpectedly won the gold medal in the 200fly at the 2000 Olympics. I remember asking her once how she mentally prepared for that race, and what she responded has stuck with me: 'I just reminded myself that all the money was in the bank and now all I have to do is spend it.'

Absolutely. Prepare thoroughly and then just do it.
