The Best Movie of 2005
Anita Sharpe on Culture

By far, in my opinion, is Match Point. I saw it tonight and it's the first movie I have been to in more than a year where most of the audience clapped at the end. (I've seen most of the Oscar nominees.)

Why was it largely snubbed by the Oscars? Because Woody Allen is a parriah? Or are the Oscars irrelevant to movie-goers?

Anita -

Perhaps it's that after suffering through 20 years of questionable work, from one of the greatest film makers of all time, few are ready to start applauding just yet. Quite a few of us would like our money back for paying for decades of dreck.
