Super Silliness
Kevin Salwen on Culture

I love these companies -- Whole Foods, Newman's Own, etc. -- but the thought of 'healthier' Super Bowl snacks is just, well, unAmerican. Salads with light dressing? Avocados?? Vegan meatballs??? C'mon now people. The Super Bowl is for Super Snacking. In fact, the party we hold is traditionally anchored by our family friend Aubrey rolling our her annual 'Football Brownie' (yes, an icing-slathered brownie in the alleged shape of a football). That's good eatin' -- and the real meaning of the Super Bowl (along with the commercials, of course). Anyone else got a fave Supersnack?

I try to make it to my sister's annual Burp Bowl, with a food competition in the following categories: 1) Best dish shaped like a football, 2) Tastiest, 3) Most likely to cause intestinal upset. (Competition is especially fierce here, last year resulting in the infamous 13-Layer Dip.)

I prepare my famous 12-pack sundae. Sprinkled with chips and salsa.

I also pray for a good game and great commercials.
