Multitasking Moment of the Week
Kevin Salwen on Culture

We've written on this site before about the apparently growing situation of bringing your cellphone into a public bathroom, subjecting whoever is on the other end of the call listen to all the joys of flushes.

Yesterday was a new one for me: I was in the restroom when a guy from the neighboring office came in chattering away about an insurance policy. Just as I was wondering how his conversation-mate might be reacting to the usual sounds of a public restroom, I began to hear a familiar swish-swish-swish noise. I looked up to see that the guy had begun brushing his teeth, punctuating his side of the conversation with Crest-filled 'uh huhs,' 'hmmms' and 'uh uhs.'

I'm trying to decipher this. This call was so important that he couldn't wait until he left the bathroom to take it. But it was so unimportant that he could brush his teeth through it? Help me here.

Reminds me of a quote from Jeremy Clarkson (from Topgear - U.K. TV show):

'I don't even get cross when people use their mobile phones on the bus or train because I'm miles away, in a car.'

That's call that guy didn't receive an education on manners on how relating to others, with or without cellphone.

Hey Harold, welcome back! Don't know if I mentioned this one before but....here's another one for you. This drove me nuts.
I took a year off swimming to try working out at a gym. Different experience than the water for sure. There was one girl who seemed to be there at the same time as me fairly often. She would jump onto the treadmill, turn on her cell phone and talk, the whole freaking time! I was on there for 45 mintues and she was too.....I don't even want to talk to people when I am working out, and, quite frankly, I don't know how much of a workout you can have it you're talking and treadmilling.....I returned back to the pool pretty quickly after that. Now, there's something I haven't seen yet...someone on their cell phone while they swim. That would be something. I am sure it will be done if someone thinks of a way to make it happen. I predict the next wave of cellphone usage is whilst sleeping! Given the fact that the majority of calls are unimportant, we should take them whilst sleeping. This would satisfy all of those quality/effiency nuts out there trying to squeeze more time out of the day as well as walking cries for euthanasia who murder our valuable time. We just need to say, 'call me after midnight'.

Other ideas:
1. while having an uninteresting conjugal encounter.
2. while dealing with relatives
3. while eating bad food

Living la vida Harold!
