Instigating creative thinking
Curt Rosengren on Creativity
One of the key elements in creating a career with 'purpose, passion and profit' is encouraging yourself to color outside the lines. With that in mind, I'm always interested in different ways people use to foster creative thinking.
EM Sky over at Win-Win Web incorporates a great technique into her blog itself. As part of her blog, she does what she calls a scavenger hunt. In her words...
Here's how it works: you find the photos, and I'll create posts to go with those photos. No matter how outlandish the image, I'll come up with a win-win message to match it. Put my creativity to the test! That's half the fun!
I love that idea. Sitting down and figuring out how any given image relates to your own journey is a great way to stretch your brain and gain insights you may not have realized were there. It forces your mind to get outside of its normal framework as it looks for connections.
Try this. Open the closest book at hand and put your finger down randomly on the page. Do a search on whatever word it lands on using Google Image Search. Take the first picture that comes up and spend some time writing (or mulling, or mind mapping...) about how that picture relates to your career, where you are, where you need to go, etc.
If you make that a regular habit, who knows where it will take you!
